Read below for all the info on how to join Summer Women's Chorus 2025.
• The choir is open to all women ages 18+ and all levels of musicianship are welcome. There is no audition requirement for Summer Women's Chorus.
• Registration will be open from April 5th - May 10th.
• THE FEE TO PARTICIPATE IS $40 PER PERSON and is non-refundable. This fee includes the music packet, which participants get to keep.
• Participants should provide their own binder and pencil. A black binder will be required for performance.
• Rehearsals will be held Thursday evenings from 7:00pm to 8:45 pm at the First Christian Church in downtown Plano. 813 E 15th St, Plano, TX 75074, beginning on Thursday, May 29th.
• Understanding that people travel in the summer, there are no attendance requirements, but the more rehearsals you can attend, the better!
• In order to perform in the concert, attendance at dress rehearsal is mandatory.
• Black concert dress is required for the performance.
• We will perform in a free concert for family and friends on August 1st.

The small auditioned chorus of Summer Women's Chorus called Voces Lucis (VL), will perform again this year. Singers from last season who wish to continue with the group will be automatically in the ensemble this year, and will not need to audition. We will be holding auditions on Thursday, May 22nd to fill the remaining spots. Those interested in auditioning should be experienced choral singers who can sing with minimal vibrato and blend well with others. Singers should be able to sing independently among close harmonies, and the basic ability of sight-reading is also expected.
Auditions will be 5-6 min in length and will consist of a prepared a cappella piece, vocalizing (with piano support) to determine range and tone, and a sight-reading excerpt.
You must be registered and plan to sing with Summer Women's Chorus in order to be considered for this smaller ensemble. There is no attendance policy with the larger chorus, but for Voces Lucis, a 80% attendance policy will be in place. You may not miss more than 2 out of the 10 scheduled rehearsals. Those in Voces Lucis will also need to pay for their own music (generally $15-18.)

AUDITION DETAILS
Auditioners will be evaluated by a panel of judges, including director, Mandie McMurdie. You will be notified with audition results no later than Monday, May 26th.
1) Please prepare the assigned excerpt from Domine Fili Unigenite by Palestrina, singing the vocal line that you are accustomed to singing. We are looking for musical accuracy, a strong supported tone with minimal to no vibrato, and expressiveness of the musical line.

2) You will be asked to sight read a short excerpt with english text.
3) You will be taken through two vocal exercises to assess range and tone.
